Origami Display at D'Monte Childcare Center Open Day

This year, 31 Oct 2009, once again, I displayed my origami art at my sister's childcare center. I brought most of my origami models this time as have 3 tables to use. However, there were much  less visitors as the Open  Day was on Saturday. Only 4-5 children visited my booth. I didn't even manage to teach any of the children to fold >< One was interested, but she wanted to fold all the difficult models.

While waiting for visitors, I folded some napkin models from a book that was given by a friend who bought it from China.

Last Monday, got another grey napkin from E&O after having International buffet there with family =) Suddenly felt the urge to make some napkin folds..

This model was seen a lot in the restaurants last time and uses paper napkin.

With a the photo provided by the link below, I managed to "reverse-engineer" (a geek's term) it with some similar fold =)

Here is what I have folded, using a real napkin. But the napkin is not square shape, so it was not that symmetrical.

Napkin Folding #1

Candle fan - this neat looking, symmetrically folded shape is designed to be inserted in a glass. It was folded with a napkin from a well-known fast-food chain =) As there is no point keeping the model, the napkin can be recycled and reused.

I have to find ways to get my hands on some other good color napkins =D

Napkin Folding

Today, I was in Borders just browsing around, readung on George Soro's comic,  the recent financial panic and even a "manual" for the bridegroom. Suddenly saw this book placed at the side of a table near the children's corner at the back. Origami napkins, are mostly simple and yet elegant in display, especially during special events like weddings. As the book is on "Sale", I didn't think twice about buying it. At RM24.90 for 1100 colorful photographs of napkins and 150 ideas, plus history and etiquette on napkin, who can resist =)  This will prove useful when it is needed during special occasions.
